Camping with 4 other families - had a great time as usual. Fishing, crabbing, Soccer, Surfing, getting DIRTY!!!! Christy and I also got to paddle this year which we both enjoyed very much. Forgot how much we loved to paddle. We both completed the Molokai Channel again this year and had a blast. Love to all.

Syd had a few of her close friends at a tea doll house dress up place. They had a blast dressing up, and having tea. The kids are having fun finishing up the summer playing with their friends. Summer vacation was a blast. We spent some time in Florida at Disney World and had a blast staying there with family. It was awesome to see the kids faces as they experience the Wonderful World of Disney. Spent some time fishing as we always enjoy so very much. Now I have to do more fishing in Hawaii. Got to visit with family in the Carolinas and found all the Sea Shells. There are not more Sea Shells on the South Carolina Beaches thanks to our family!!!! Got to visit with family in Texas where Zachery lost his 2 front teeth. Hudson figured out how to photo shop Zachery's photo as an old man with no teeth. Pretty funny. We had a blast with all the friends and family. We miss yall, but also glad to be back home. Can't wait to see yall soon. Love us

Mothers's Day @ YMCA Camp Erdman

We had a blast this year for Mother's Day. We went to the North Shore YMCA Camp Erdman for the weekend. It was an action backed weekend with all kinds of activities for the whole family. It was Family weekend, focused on family activities. We did arts and crafts, swimming, archery, climbing wall, Alpine climbing challenge, Kayaking, Oddyssey ropes challenge, giants swings, camp fire songs, smores, shell hunting, etc... We are exhausted, but plan to make it an annual event hopefully. We met some people that know Maddy and Emma from Camp Matolly. It really is a small world. God bless, and see everyone soon. It was a very sad day today as we had to say goodbye to Rainbow the Rabbit. He/She we were never sure, gave us many fun years, and very wonder friend to Sydney. She is VERY SAD, as we are also. We had a ceremony tonight, and laid him/her to rest in the ground in the back yard next to where the cage is. We decorated it with flowers. No we don't plan on getting another pet at this point. Zachery is enjoying drawing and art. Here are a few of his masterpieces. Hope you enjoy them. One is the ocean animals, the other is land animals. Love to all and god bless.

Halloween 2010

Zachery is enjoying soccer, he seems to quite good at it so far. Dad is helping to coach the Blue Dragons. We went to a different pumpkin patch this year closer to home, different experience for the kids. Then the next week Zachery's class went there on a class trip which Dad got to chaperon. Halloween was another success on Palawiki St. thanks to the Lemonds family. Each year they work very hard to entertain the kids at Halloween. This year it was a haunted padgent runway for the kids to strut their stuff. It was a huge success. Syd was a BAT, Zak was grim reaper, Mom was a cat, and Dad was agent P perry the platapus. Hope all is well. Go UH!!!!!!

The Shed

The shed turned out to be more of a therapy project. Lots of fun, and learned tons. Like most projects it took longer than expected, but thanks to Re-Use Hawaii, it still came in under budget. Re-Use Hawaii recycles old lumber from houses that are torn down. Most of the shed was made with recycled materials, including the lights and fan. Thanks to SUPER Dave Lemonds, for all his expertise and man hrs. Most importantly thanks to my family for putting up with me and my project. Christy is excited to get her garage back. Love to all. ZAK Birthday

Zachery and Owen still crack me up when they talk, and don't know anyone is listening. ZAK and Owen were talking the other day and ZAK says "I got stung by a Poker-Cheese (Portuguese) Man of War swimming in the ocean. Owen says "Yea well you can only die 2 ways - 1st if you get shot and stabbed, 2nd is if you get old.

Zachery's birthday was fun. He wanted pizza at home and a water balloon fight with Griffen and Hudson. He likes to keep it simple, and that works just fine with us. ZAK is still coughing, but it seems a little better, when he doesn't run around. But that didn't stop him from scoring 6 goals in his first soccer game. At the end I asked him to pass the ball to his team-mates, and he did it very unselfishly. I was very proud of him. Sydney and Lava loved the game also, just across the street, so we can walk. Sydney is all recovered from her tonsillectomy, and she went to the store today to pick out new earrings with her birthday money. She has a count down going, she can't put new ones in until Mom's birthday. Hope all is well, we miss yall!!!

Zachery got to drive his first SHELBY. He was allowed to drive it early because he was a careful driver. Let's hope that continues with the teenage years. Sydney and ZAK celebrated their birthdays together at the ICE skating rink. Yes we have one of them in Hawaii. It is very popular and crowded, but the kids loved it. Jen and Mary had a great visit, and we really enjoyed having them. Sydney had her tonsils taken out this week, and she is enjoying the popsicle and icecream for breakfast lunch and dinner. Zak is also benefiting from the arrangements. The kids go back to school next week, Sydney in second grade and Zak in kindergarten. My new job as a physical therapist is great. I love getting back to patient care. Miss everyone and hope to get back to the mainland next summer if everything works out. Love Bortons

We went camping at Malaikahana where we got married. It was beautiful!!! The weather was perfect. The cabin needed a little help, but we made due. We all went surfing and Jen stood up!!! The kids had a blast cooking smoores, and crab hunting at night. All the kids caught some fish, as well as some crabs and a few prawns. It was great to see the kids having so much fun using their imagination an no TV, just good old mother nature.

The big island for spring break with our neighbors the Lemonds was a blast. We stayed at Volcano National Park. The kids saw the lava steam during the day, and the red/orange glow of the lava at night time. It was cold in our cabin, and we made a fire and roasted marshmellows. We also stayed a few days on the Kona side. Had great weather, and great fun. The whales were jumping right off shore. We also got to see some dolphins up close, and Sydney wanted to live with them.

Zachery likes taking Kempo with Jack and Owen. They really seem to enjoy it. I like that they also teach honor, discipline, respect, etc. We can alway use more of that in our house and the world. Santa 09

Kids annual visit with Santa. Zachery wants a "mokum-control helicopter. Sydney wants a DS video game. They have been pretty good this year. Hope Santa noticed. Sydney had her Hula christmas performance and they actually get better each year. We bought a lazy boy for the living room, but the kids have enjoyed the box is came in much more. It has been over a month, and the kids continue to enjoy eating some of their meals in it. Christy had surgery on her ankle monday. The pain was initially more than expected, and upset stomach was challenging. Dad was suppose to be home all week to help out, but the Federal Inspection team showed up at the nursing home and stayed all week. Lucky we have great support from wonderful neighbors and family. Halloween had great weather, and of course it was spent at the Lemonds house of horrors. Took the neighborhood a week or so to construct the haunted house. The kids and adults had a blast. Thanks to the Lemonds for always raising the bar. We got a new lazy boy chair, but the kids much preferred the box it came in. The kids still enjoy eating most of their meals in the box. We did a fun hike Koolau waterfall near the golf course. Kids got muddy, and had a blast. Love to all and may god bless you and your family.

Christy and I had a great time in Chicago. I had to go for work, and thanks to Mimi and Baba watching the kids, Christy was able to accompany me. It was our first trip away from the kids. We missed the kids but had a great trip. The photo is us outside Soilder field before we went in to watch a NFL Bears vs Lions game. Awesome stadium. The kids got to pick their pumpkins again from the pumpkin patch, annual tradition. The kids got to learn about protesting at the state capital. Notice Sydney's new shorter hair cut. She loves it. The kids have so much fun and enjoyment playing, teaching, and of course loving LAVA. He is so worth all the time and effort. I love watching the kids play with him, and LAVA anxiously waiting for Sydney to wake up in the morning to play. Although the kids had to talk me into it, it was one of the best family decisions we ever made. Can't wait for you all to meet LAVA boy.

ZAK's first day of Kindergarten

Zachery's first day of Kindergarten was a very sad day for mom and dad. Zachery was worried he would have to know how to read to everyone. Once he found out he didn't have to read out loud he was much more relaxed. Zachery loves his teacher and his class. He was the line leader the first day, and he was very proud of himself. Zachery is helping out around the house now doing his chores of taking out the garbage. Sydney is still very much in love with Lava out new dog. She takes him for rides in her barbie jeep. The kids are getting back into the swing of things with school starting up again. We are going to puppy training school for the next several weeks so Lava can train us. Summer Vacation 09

Many thanks to all our family and friends who made our summer vacation so memorable. First stop was Texas and had an action packed week of adventures on the lake, jet skis, boats, goats, pigs, horses etc... Second stop was North Carolina to Relax in the Cabin on the lake with fishing, boats, tube rides, visit with all the extended family.... Third stop was South Carolina for some water parks, rock climbing, and of course the kids museum..... Last stop was Florida to see Mickey Mouse and family to relax on the beach and visit. The kids hated to leave the mainland, but were glad to get back home to Hawaii. It was great to see how much all the cousins have has grown up. Thanks again for all the MEMORIES. Aloha Bortons

Block Party Success

We did a hike today. Olomana mountain in Kailua. We made it up half way. The kids wanted to make it to the top to feel the clouds that were on the mountain top, but it was a hard hike and we got pooped. Perhaps next year. They gave it a good try. Can't believe Zak is graduated from Preschool now. It was a very nice ceremony. They asked the kids what they wanted to be when they grow up. Zachery wanted to be a police officer. Last week is was a astronaut. What ever fills his heart he should do. Sydney was a beautiful Italian Ballet dancer. The show was the dances of the world. Her class was from Italy. The whole Palawiki St. gang went to support Sydney. She felt very special. Looking forward to our trip. See you all soon.

Mother's day weekend

It was a fun in the sun weekend. Surfing for the Palawiki St dad's in the early am, then for the kids in the afternoon. Then of course Mother's day Chirsty got spoiled as she deserves. Breakfast pancakes, jog without kids, church, beach day of standup paddling with Ginger. We have had some great weather lately, and definitely took advantage of it. Sydney's swimming confidence has really improved this year, and Zachery likes to surf as long as his eyes don't get wet. We will see if swim teacher Pat can work on that one. Aloha for now. Bortons

May Day; Hula; Brian's Memory

A wonderful tradition in Hawaii is May Day Celebrations with beautiful Leis. Lilly Mayrose one of our baby sitters was the royal Queen. Sydney danced and sang beautifully. Sydney also had a hula celebration later that night with her hula friends. This weeked is also very sad as we remembered Brian Felix. It really is amazing how short life can be, and how we really should celebrate every day we are alive. Brian impacted all our lives and we will remember him forever. Aloha Bortons

I was blessed a few weeks ago to experience a humpback whale mother and her baby calf upclose and personal on my canoe. My friend Sean and I were paddeling about 2 miles off Diamond Head when we came across what looked to be a whale in distress. Sean is a long time Honolulu Lifeguard and Firefighter. We both paddled closer to see if the whale was caught up in a net or something and require assistance. When we got very close we realized the mother was nudging her baby calf up to the surface to breath and she was helping it along. The whales were not frightned by our presence, and we were in awe at the sight of it all. We were actually on top of the whales side fin at one point. We drifted for about a minute and then they slowly submerged. It was a very neat experience.
Got to take the kids to a UH baseball game. It was a blast. Of course trying to catch the foul balls and the food were the highlights.
We went to Maui this year for Easter. We rented a rustic cabin along the Hana coast of Maui. It was very rural. The kids had a blast. We hiked, fished, made smores, and just enjoyed mother nature and each others company. The Easter Bunny actually found us out there. We of course colored eggs and had a very memorable trip. Paddling with Kevin Sunday morning and caught these great sunrise photos. Zak is a scoring machine in basketball, as well as Jack Lemonds. Coach Dave and myself are having a blast. Zak starts the soccer fun season this saturday. Sydney wants to return to ballet. Very interesting to have a president born in Hawaii. President Obama is the only news out here. The hawaii people support him very much. Alot of Hawaii people went to washington DC. Alot of Hawaii was invited take part in the festivities. Let's hope it helps our tourism and local economy! Christy is mending slowly. Hopes to return to work this week. Very frustrated with her slow pace of recovery, but she is hanging in there like a trooper. I have been catching some good surf this winter so far with the help of Dave and Randy keeping it fun.

Christmas spirit is alive in Hawaii. Kids are really into it this year. It is fun trying to answer all of the great questions the kids ask. Is the north pole near the north shore? Where does santa park the reindeer when he is at the mall? Christy got to finally do her marathon she has been training so hard for. The weather was very rainy, but that didn't stop her or 23 thousand other crazy people. Christy did much better than she had anticipated, and I almost missed her finish, but made it just in time. As with most famalies the cat is incharge. But I have to draw the line when he started taking over the remote control. The girls were playing so nice I had to take a picture of their game. It was here comes the Dead Girl. Boogie board on top of the skateboard. Next of course was "Tigs" breaking his leg. Yes he is so tiny, when he fell of this scratching post he suffered a hairline fracture, with a little help from Zachery. For Halloween Zachery was of course Obi Won Kanobi, Sydney was a cat like Tigger. Tonight at the dinner table we were talking about what we are thankful for and why we love each other. Sydney loves Mom because she is nice and buys her things she wants. Zachery loves mom because she buys him milk, and she has nice teeth. Sydney is thankful for GOD. Zachery is also thankful for GOD, but also cookies. Have a great holiday.

New addition to the Borton Family

Tiger is his name. Zachery wants to watch starwars movies with him, and Sydney wants to take him to school for show and tell. His meow is so soft, and he is so small, we often don't realize he is even there. Still need to get him fixed and potty trained. He will stay an indoor cat for awhile until he grows up a little, then transition outside. The kids have been beggin for awhile, so this should appease them for a week or two. Had a great visit with Mimi and Baba. Zachery taught Baba how to fight with lightsabers. Sydney is having fun on her soccer team this year she is a crowd favorite. Christy celebrated her 40th birthday many times. Mimi and Baba watched the kids so we could go to Turtle Bay for the weekend. Horseback riding on the beach was memorable. Picked our own pumpkins this year, which was alot of fun. Sydney lost another tooth and was very brave. Zachery still loves going to Jack's house. (wishes he could live there) so do we some times!!!

Went to the water park for Gabriel's birthday party. The season passes were a great investment this year. The kids have gotten so much use out of it. It has taught them alot about courage, self esteem, patience, other kids not so nice behavior, lifeguard rules. Kids love the fact that dad use to be a lifeguard. We have enjoyed watching the olympics with the kids also. Diving was a big hit.

Dad had the priveledge of takine Sydney to her fist full day of school again. Mom too her to the half days and orientation. Having the neighborhood walk to school each morning makes it alot of fun. Sydney is enrolled in Girl Scouts, Soccer, and Swim lessons again this year. Keeping us all busy, especially MOM.

Beautiful rainbow one morning surfing before work. Some fun hiking and beach fun lately. We are so truly blessed to have such a wonderful life. We thank God every night, and our parents that brought us into this world and raised us. Zachery had some insight into love a marriage yesterday. He asked Christy how long mommy and daddy were married? 12 years. Why was his response? Christy explained that is what 2 people do when they love each other. Zachery asked if Christy loved daddy, and I am please to say she said yes. Zachery responded "well I love JACK." Christy explained that love is very similar but not the same. Usually boys marry girls, and girls marry boys. Zachery thinks for a moment and says, "well I want her to not wear lipstick, and she has to be small, because I am small." So any takers!!! Sydney is excited about starting Kindergarten. She helped with orientation last week. Love to all Borton Ohana.

Block Party, Memorial Day

Annual Palawiki St Block Party was a huge success. More kids each year. Don't think they all actually live here, but it was more fun with all of them. The dunk booth was a huge hit again. Thanks to Mike and Jim for getting it last minute. Sydney's Daisey Girls/Girl Scouts were on the TV news for decorating the Veterans Cemetery for Memorial Day. Zachery, Christy, Kristen, Owen & Jack came to my nursing home to help celebrate May Day. It was awesome having them there for our performance. Sydney was beautiful in her Ballet recital, of course her group was the hit of the show. Then we went snorkeling at Hanauma Bay. Sydney saw some fish, Zachery still only snorkels in the bathtub, but he is getting braver, and wants to surf, (as long as he doesn't get his eyes wet). Zachery was going through a tough spell about a week ago with his nauty behavior. We just didn't know what to do. So Christy asked the kids "what should we do about Zachery's nauty behavior". Sydney suggested "we should sell him to Australia", well that broke all the tension and started to laugh. Sydney was dead serious, "well how about selling him to Maui". Needless to say Zachery's behavior has improved and we did not have to take Sydney's advice. Lucky for Zachery.

Christy and I were taking a shower together (to save water of course) and Zachery came in and asks what we are doing. We explain to him we are taking a shower together. Zachery proceedes to tell Christy that the line for the shower starts outside the shower, NOT INSIDE. Just another funny day in Kailua. Aloha Doug

New swing set & Lanai is complete

The guys draged the kids up Mariners Ridge - they made it, but we almost killed Dave's co-worker. He is doing fine now. The girls went crazy purchasing new swing sets and putting them together all by them selves. Some classic comments were "hey the factory screwed up, these boards are too long so we cut them?" and "we should call the company for drilling the holes in the wrong places, we had to re-drill alot of the planks?" Let's hope the swingset stays upright. The girls did a great job. Still standing!!!! Then of course the Lanai (porch) project from hell. It is finally done, Pau, finished. I told Christy this was one of her worst projects. Now I know why they charge so much to do these kind of jobs. It turned out GREAT. Thanks to all the helpers. Christy, Zachery, Sydney, Randy, Dave, and my dad. Could not have done it with out your help. Thanks Hope to see everyone real soon. Aloha Doug

Thanks to all for a great trip to South Carolina and Florida. It was great to see all the family. We obviously had a great time thanks to all your help and support. The kids even celebrated St. Patricks Day. Mahalo to all again.

Bed fun, kids driving funny comments

The kids were caught red handed jumping on Mommy's bed. Of course that is a NO NO. But it sure is fun. We are just having some tremendous weather lately on the weekends. The kids have really enjoyed our many trips to the beach. We thoroughly enjoy it as well. Christy has fallen in love with a new sport. Stand Up Paddle Surfing. Basically crossing paddling with surfing, except you always stand up. We rented some boards last weekend, and had a blast. The guys were sort of neutral about the new sport, but Christy loved it of course, and she is naturally talented and picked it up right away. The guys continue our surfing quest every Saturday morning to find the perfect wave. We went to Kuilima Bay or Turtle Bay this week. The wave were huge, but not pretty. Sort of disorganized. It was fun trying to dodge the huge waves, and occasionally catch one of them. Good work out. No real safe zone this time so we didn't get any photos. I have been researching digital cameras and waterproof ones. We got our taxes done, and both Christy and I have different ideas what we want to spend our money on. I want camera equipment, and I think she wants a stand up paddle board and paddle. The more likely route will probably be to pay for our vacation to the east coast in March.

Some funny quotes from the kids this week. We were driving in through this nice neighborhood and we saw this family walking along the side of the road. Sydney says "awe they are poor". I asked why she thought they were poor. She said because they don't have a side walk. After a good chuckle I proceeded to tell Sydeny that most neighborhoods in Hawaii don't have sidewalks. Some of the most expensive ones like Lanikai don't have sidewalks. Zachery and I were driving one day and he saw a nice green lawn and said "look dad a golf course". I said no Zachery that is a grave yard. Well that turned into a 30 minute discussion. Some of the highlights are. Zachery said he doesn't want to be buried when he dies. Only bad guys get buried. Zak wanted to know if GOD worked at the grave yard. I told him he probably does make some regular visits. Then of course he wanted to see the skeleton bones etc....

Day at the beach

Besides the great weather and fun I had a close encounter with a humpback whale. Kevin and I were one-man canoeing out behind the mokulua islands and got very close to a pod of 5 humpback whales. It was sun rise and very quiet, no wind and crystal clear blue water. We saw them far away and thought wow that was neat and kept paddeling. 5 minutes later Kevin and I had to stop in our tracks because the sound of the whales blowing their waterspouts scared us almost off our canoes. We were within 50 yards. We just watched these massive beautiful creatures go right by us. Then the most wonderful thing happened. We heard them singing under the water. Our canoes were echoing the whale songs they were singing. I have never heard this in person before. They sang for a couple of minutes. It truely was a memory I will never forget. At least I hope not. Zachery finally got his left handed golf club today. He hit 2 buckets of balls and was a happy camper. Sydney got to go with mom to the mall and do girl things. Shop of course!!!!!

Surfing North Shore Kavella Bay

Unexpected great conditions at the secret Kavella bay on the North Shore. Surfing with Dave and Mark. Waves were 6-10 ft and glassy. Few whales jumping way outside, and the LPGA tour just around the corner Anaka was leading when we went past. Awesome day!!! Lucky we live Hawaii...

Mariner's Ridge Hike

Hiking has become our new weekend family activity this month. The kids were real troopers this week. Mariner's Ridge was the longest hike they have done about 2.5 hrs round trip. Only had to carry them a small part of the way. It was well worth the spectacular views from the top. We saw 2 whales breaching today as well. I had a nice birthday, and the family had a great Valentines Day. Thanks for all your cards and gifts. We have off on president's day and have planed a day on the beach with frineds from South Carolina. Got good news about our friend Kristen Lemonds. Her cancer appears to be shrinking from the Chemo treatments and your prayers please keept them up.

Sydney looses 2 teeth

Sydney stood in front of the mirror for a long time wiggling her tooth. Once she got one out she was determined to get the other one out. She got the second one out in only minutes. The tooth fairy will be busy tonight. Sydney was very proud. We had to show all the neighbors. Zachery wants to know where the tooth fairy lives. He says tooth land. Rainbow moves outside

Rainbow has moved outside. She in not a dwarf rabbit anymore. We built her a nice enclosure and she seems to be happy. I know mom is definately more happy.

Lanikai pill box hike was a blast for the kids. Zackery really liked the ropes, and Sydney loved catching ladybugs and picking flowers. We had lunch on top of the world, and the kids enjoyed seeing the sights below.

Santa left his mark this year with snowy boot prints in our house, and of course eating his favorite chocolate chip cookies. Sydney plays with her talking doll and webkinz computer pony. If you don't know what a computer webkinz is be thankful. Her cousins Griffin and Hudson are experts and teaching all of us daily. Zachery continues to "snorpel" in the bathtub and wear his UH football jersy continously. If I have any spare time Zachery and Sydney help me with the back porch project laying new flagstone down. We took a trip around the island last week with friends and enjoyed some shave ice on the north shore. Please continue to pray for our friend Kristen Lemonds and their family as she under goes treatment for breast cancer. Thanks for all the great gifts and prayers. We miss you all. Aloha Bortons

Christmas 2007

Sydney loves her talking baby. Zachery loves snorkeling in the bathtub. Dad loves his new power tools. Mom is glad it is all over. Thanks to all for the wonderful gifts. We are truely blessed, and are living a wonderful life. We are all anxiously awaiting the UH Sugarbowl game New Years day against the Georgia Bull dogs in New Orleans.
